VICTORIA THEATRE
The Northern Chamber Orchestra present a performance of Schumann’s Cello Concerto on Wednesday, October 1st. Featuring soloist Raphael Wallfisch this concert will commence at 7.30pm and tickets cost £12, £10 and student concessions £6. FLAG MAKING WORKSHOP
Many thanks to everyone involved in this venture and to all the volunteers who gave their time to make this such a success. Special thanks to Settle Voices for their musical entertainment during the afternoon session.  The  workshop went very well and there was a steady stream of visitors all day, who were intrigued by the craft. An number of visitors were so inspired that they have come forward to join the group and will be working with the current flagmakers to create something special for Settle Station for Christmas. Fridge magnets, packs of cards and flag making kits were also on sale during the day and this raised £140 which has been donated to Settle Parish Church Aspire and Renew appeal.  

SETTLE WI SEPTEMBER MEETING
Next month’s meeting is on Wednesday 1st October when the speaker will be Sharon Link on ‘The history of Manorlands Hospice’

LINE DANCING
Have you ever fancied having a try at line-dancing but been intimidated by the way everyone else seems to know just exactly what they are doing? Settle Line Dancers have the answer. Starting at 6.30pm on Wednesday evening they are holding a series of beginners classes in line dancing to help get you into the mood and in step! The classes are held at St John’s hall and are designed for novices to give them a chance to get the hang of things in a friendly setting.  A charity donation of £2.50 per session is asked and all are welcome.

SWING BAND
If you enjoy big band music then the place to be on 27 September is Settle College! Settle Amateur Operatic Society is hosting swing band night featuring the lively and enthusiastic sound of a 17 musicians who collectively make up “Swing City”.  The evening commences at 7.30pm and tickets cost £5 from 01729 822364 (or on the door). Please note, there will not be a bar at this event but you are welcome to bring your own glasses and drinks.

GRASSROOTS
There will be an exhibition and information session at Friends Meeting House on 28 September between 2-6pm, giving the chance for you to find out more about transition towns, permaculture and green things to do in Settle.

CHURCHES TOGETHER
Churches Together in Settle are holding a special family service at St John’s Church at 6.30pm on Sunday 28 September. This service is being held in conjunction with the Settle community/cycling festival

BADMINTON CLUB
The weekly badminton sessions begin again on October 1st at Langcliffe Institute and new members are always welcome. Sessions run from 7.30-9.30pm.

FASHION SHOW
Settle Amateur Operatic Society invite you to come along to a fashion show in Victoria Hall on 2 October. Staged by local shop, Gladrags,  tickets are available either from the shop or via 01729 822364.  Tickets cost £5, including a glass of wine.

SHOP EARLY FOR CHRISTMAS!
Settle College is hosting a fund raising fashion show and shopping evening on October 3rd and invite you along to gain inspiration for Christmas gifts and treats. Tickets cost £2.50 and the evening will commence at 7pm. As well as fashions from local shops providing clothes for all ages there will also be a range of cards, gifts, make-up, handbags and purses and jewellery on sale.

DAY SCHOOL
An information day school event is being held at Victoria Hall on 4 October (cost £10) at which there will be the opportunity to hear local historians and archaeologists discussing findings on the Giggleswick Scar Project.

AUTUMN AREA FORUM
There is a chance for you to find out about local policies, issues and projects and to have your say on these matters when CDC holds its Autumn Area Forum at Victoria Hall on 9 October. All are welcome

REIKI AND MEDITATION
Do you feel the need to relax and recover after a difficult day. The Play Barn is staging a reiki and meditation session on October 9 between 7.30-9.30. Refreshments will be available.

RACE NIGHT
A charity racenight and disco is taking place on October 11 at Settle Social Club in aid of Freda’s Playgroup.  Tickets cost £5 and racing will begin promptly at 7.30pm.  Ticket are available from the club, the playgroup or via 01729 825433.

QUIZ NIGHT
Settle College invite you to take part in a quiz night on 16 October at 7pm (quiz starts 7.30pm prompt). Teams of four are invited to join in the fun and the cost is £12 per team. To register contact Alison Rushton on 822451.

SETTLE AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY
This year’s production of “Oliver” will take place on 27 October – 1 Nov at Victoria Theatre.  Performances start at 7.30pm (Saturday matinee at 2.30). Tickets are available from the box office on 01729 825718 and cost £7.50 and £6.50 with special stalls concessions for children and senior citizens.
