New minibus for Age UK
AGE UK North Craven has taken delivery this month of a brand-new minibus to help smooth the way for those in later life.
The minibus was specially adapted to specifications requested by local older people by Minibus Options of Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire.
It includes safer access, shelves for shopping and secure storage for shopping trolleys and walking aids.
A grant from North Yorkshire County Council covered 75 per cent of the cost with special fund-raising effort helping towards the remainder. Thanks go, in particular, to Age UK shop manager Debbie Hall and all her volunteers, who organised The Fashion Show in April that raised £2,750.
The bus will join the current one already in service and be used for Age UK North Craven’s regular shuttle services round Settle and up to Kirkby Lonsdale. These offer access to lunch clubs, shops and amenities, or just to meet family and friends.
The Age UK shuttles enable people to continue living independently and helps to address loneliness and isolation.
