Ribblehead Tours

FRIENDS OF THE SETTLE AND CARLISLE LINE

RIBBLEHEAD HERITAGE TOURS 2015.

The very successful Ribblehead Heritage Tours will be taking place again this year.

Members of the public who wish to take part in the tours should meet at Ribblehead Visitor Centre on the southbound platform at 10.15 a.m.

The tours will operate on the following dates.

Each Wednesday from 27th May to 2nd September, 2015.

There will be two tours each day.  The shorter tour will visit the Ribblehead Viaduct and members of the public will hear about the construction of the viaduct, how the workforce lived in this remote location, and will see archaeological remains of the construction of the viaduct.  This tour takes two hours.

The longer tour will visit Blea Moor Tunnel and participants are asked to bring a packed lunch.  This tour takes five hours.

Participants must wear strong footwear and carry waterproof clothing.

Visitors who are undecided about the weather can check before they set off.   There are two ways -

1 Check out the Ribblehead weather station for real time weather 24/7:

2. We now have a live HD and sound web camera mounted on the Ribblehead Station Masters House, aimed at the viaduct.   Sound on and click the full screen arrows bottom right.   The pictures are amazing but be warned it is a bit of a time waster.   Perfect though for armchair train-spotters:
