Settle Folk Gathering will take place on 3-6 September. All events at the gathering are free but booking is essential as admission is by ticket only. On September 17 Holy Moly and the Crackers will take to the stage for an evening of folky, waltz-y punky, fiddle flying, Cajun fun with rousing hoe-downs ensuring that you get up and dance. Music of an entirely different genre on September 26 when West Yorkshire Savoyards return with their production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic Savoy opera “The Gondoliers”. Benji Kirkpatrick, from Bellowhead, brings his show “Bendrix” to Settle on September 27th. The first half of the show is Benji’s own material, with the second half entirely dedicated to an exploration of the music of Jimi Hendrix material set against a specially commissioned visual backdrop by Shropshire-based artist Esther Thorpe. This section comprises classic songs by the legendary guitarist, adapted for bouzouki, banjo and mandolin so that by stripping back the layers of electric guitar, the solos and the psychedelia the songs appear in their pure form, to reveal Hendrix as a sensitive songwriter On September 25 the unusual and critically acclaimed play “Beryl – a romance on two wheels” will be performed, celebrating the life of Beryl Burton – the greatest woman on two wheels.Yorkshire woman Beryl Burton was five times world pursuit champion, twice road racing champion and twelve times national champion. She was one of the most astonishing sports people ever to have lived. The play tells the story of Beryl’s life, from working on a rhubarb farm to becoming the best British cycling all-rounder for 25 consecutive years and, in 1967, setting a 12 hour time-trial which has not been broken to this day. GUIDED WALKS
There will be two guided walks arranged by Friends of Settle-Carlisle line this weekend, both taking place on Saturday 5th September. No reservation is necessary for this walk but all participants should ensure that they are appropriately clothed, carry a packed lunch where required and have suitable footwear. The first of these is an Appleby circular walk via Long Marton & Kirkby Thore. This is a 12 mile moderate walk leaving Appleby at 10.06. The second is an 11mile moderately strenuous walk from Dent to Garsdale leaving Dent at 10.16. Details can also be found at walksinfo@settle-carlisle.com.

DOLLS HOUSE SALE
A range of dolls house items are currently being offered for sale on Tuesdays at Settle Parish Church during the coffee morning sessions from 10.15-2pm.
CHARITY DANCE

HATHA YOGA

HORSE RACE NIGHT
Settle Amateur Operatic Society invite you to join them for a Horse Race Night at Victoria Hall on Saturday, 12 September. First race will take place at 7.30pm. NORTH RIBBLESDALE RUFC
A family evening is being held at the rugby club on 18 September to mark the England v Fiji match. There will be fun rugby games, a face painting, food, a happy hour bar and the opportunity to watch the match live on large screens. The event will commence at 6.30pm.
IYENGAR YOGA
A new term of Iyengar Yoga Sessions will commence on 21 September. The Monday sessions take place at Friends Meeting House at 12.30-2.00 for mixed ability and 2.15-3.30 for beginners. SETTLE STORIES
Bookings are now being taken at Victoria Hall for Settle Stories “Star Party” on 10 October. This will be a full day event commencing at 11am and running till late and will feature a range of story tellers and astronomers throughout the day which will be meeting of storytellers and astronomers suitable for adults and children. A collaboration between Settle Stories, Manchester Metropolitan University & Bradford Astronomical Society., the day’s highlights will include: a rocket workshop, a chance to visit a Star Lab with astronomers and storytellers and a new star story event with international award winning storyteller – Cassandra Wye. HERITAGE OPEN DAYS.
Settle Friends Meeting House, Kirkgate, (opposite the Victoria Hall) will be taking part in the Heritage Open Days scheme. The building will be open on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th September between 10am – 5pm and on Sunday 13th between 1- 5pm. GIGGLESWICK
HERITAGE OPEN DAYS
As part of the national Heritage Open Days, Giggleswick School Chapel will be open to the public on 12 and 13 September. On Saturday the chapel will be open from 10am-5pm with music recitals at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. On Sunday the chapel will be open from 12 -4.30pm with recitals at noon and 2pm.
