A Round Up of events compiled by Judith Allinson, for residents and visitors to Settle and District

We have lost two very dear friends at my church (St John’s Methodist,
Settle) this week:-
Helen Kirby’s funeral will be on Thursday 31 Oct at 3pm at St John’s
Methodist Church. (We have been asked to wear bright coloured clothes)
Derek Soames funeral will be at Settle Parish Church on Monday 4
November at 2pm.

Flowers  by   Judith Allinson Organised by Clapham WEA group.
2. Wed 30 Oct – CCG Fungus Foray  10.00 am  – Join Archie McAdam and Jane
Rushworth for a Fungal Foray, near Feizor. Meet at Settle Swimming
Pool at 10 a.m. to share lifts. Bring strong footwear.
3. Scottish Dancing St John’s Church hall 7.30pm

E V E N T S  I N  D E T A I L

1. Tue 29 Oct -TONIGHT –  Talk at Clapham on Wild Flowers of North
Craven – in particular on flowers of the Ingleton Overgound
Underground Trail  route.  by Judith Allinson

Organised by Clapham WEA group.
This is a “One off” evening – so all welcome. There is a small charge
of £5-00
As well as common flowers you can see around Clapham, it will feature
some of the special plants of Ingleborough.
This is at Clapham Primary School.
If you have any “wild flowers flowering in your garden now – i.e.
weeds flowering, do bring them in too.”
To get to Clapham Primary School as you drive in from  Settle, TURN
LEFT at the New Inn (not right to go into the village)

2. Wed 30 Oct – CCG Fungus Foray  10.00 am  – Join Archie McAdam and Jane
Rushworth for a Fungal Foray, near Feizor. Meet at Settle Swimming
Pool at 10 a.m. to share lifts.   (If you want to meet at Feizor
come to SD790677)  Please bring a packed lunch, walking boots and
waterproofs for a full day in the field. Contact 01729 825997 for
further information.

What we will do this year will be flexible, and possibly weather dependent.
Bring strong shoes/ boots and waterproofs. Bring a basket/ egg carton/
small container in which to place your finds.  I hope to go too.

3. Thur 31 Oct – Scottish Country Dancing Class
Every Thursday 7.30pm – 9.30pm
St John’s Methodist Church Hall. £3.00 per evening:

if you haven’t done Scottish Dancing before we will show you how.

4.  4 Nov: Craven Speakers Club  Skipton 7.40pm
The Soroptimists Rooms

Are you shy at speaking in public? This group will make you brave.
Come and watch what goes on at an evening.
Do recommend it to your friends, especially younger ones at the start
of their career. (Even still at school/college) We learn tips on how
to speak to an audience, and  more importantly, we get CHANCE TO
PRACTICE in a friendly supportive atmosphere. You can just watch if
you want to.-(You don’t have to speak at your first meeting – give it a try)

And if you are already a clear confident effective speaker you will
learn lots of tips on how to become even better.

Please tell your friends about Speakers Club at Skipton.

5. 5 Nov Coffee Morning at St John’s Church, Settle for  World Church 10am

6. 7 Nov: Organ Recital with demonstration by Paul Fisher Settle Parish Church
12.30 pm

Paul will introduce a small selection of organ pieces by Bach,
Vierne, other french composers, and himself.  Speaking from the
console, he will talk about the background  to each piece, and
explain how the different colours and sounds of the organ are used
in them.
