9. 7 and 8 March: International Flavour in Austwick’s annual show!
“Oil Tek the High Road”
Austwick Community Players bring their own brand of comedy and fun to
the world in early March with their much awaited 2014 show. Entitled
“Oil Tek the High Road” the production has a hilarious, and very
topical theme with a Caledonian flavour, a Western touch, a hint of
Eastern delight and plenty of Yorkshire humour.
Each year, the show is written ,produced and performed by local people
who form the group of actors and stage crew. The productions are
received with great acclaim; comments from the 2013 audiences include
“Great fun, very clever, great costumes” and “a chance [for the
players] to exercise considerable talents”. The 15 cast and stage crew
is formed from a varied group of professions – farmers, vet,
librarian, goatherd, speech therapist, postmistress, fireman, teacher,
writer, photographer, trainer, photographer, retailer and designer.
The tradition goes back some 40 years.
The Players put on the entertainment for the over 65s in Austwick and
Lawkland Parishes near Settle at a free supper on the first Thursday
in March. Then they throw open the show to the public on the following
two nights to help pay for the over 65s evening.
