Concerts and workshops
Settle Music will be organising a series of events and workshops for the summer. Although we have several events in the pipeline we’d be interested in your ideas for others so please get in touch with Allan at settlemusic@gmail.com with any suggestions. Our plans include:
- Beginners Penny Whistle Workshop – We’re working towards a June date for our Penny Whistle workshop. The location is likely to be in Settle.
- Samba Drum Workshop: – This will be a half day beginners workshop which we are hoping to run during the school summer holidays.
- Settle Guitar Club – We’re working with several players and Poppy’s Cafe to set up a Guitar club for Settle.
- Song writing workshops – for all of you budding songwriters out there we are setting up sessions where you can learn techniques and collaborate on songs.
- Evening concerts – We are also working with Poppy’s Cafe to set up a series of evening concerts and recitals featuring local artists in an intimate setting.
Full details of all of these events and tickets will be available in the shop and through the Settle Music website www.settlemusic.co.uk
Friday Night is guitar music night!
Settle Music have organised a series of sessions for guitarists to play together. The sessions will be held on the first Friday of the month in Langcliffe Institute (7pm to 9pm). Guitarists of all styles and abilities will be welcome.
Snare today Cajon tomorrow
We have two Cajons in the shop at the moment which are creating a lot of interest. These may look a lot like owl boxes but in the hands of a someone with a bit of rhythm they become a very effective percussion instrument and a more than adequate substitute for the more traditional drum-kit. They are very popular with folk and roots bands and have the advantage that they are extremely portable. Come in and have a go!
Online shopping with Settle Music.
Several new features have been added to the Settle Music website in the last month which bring customers good deals direct from some of our suppliers. We have puts links on our website that take you directly to theirs. You will then be able to search for products – like CDs, books, sheet music, downloads and custom made products – buy them and have them delivered to your door. This helps Settle Music too, as we get a small commission for pointing you at their sites and, more importantly, these transactions strengthen our relationships with these suppliers.
However if you are not comfortable with Internet shopping then we can always do it for you. For example our CD purchasing service is now fully functioning and we have the facility to download sheet music and print it out in the shop.
2nd Hand Instruments
Settle Music continue to have a great deal of success with the 2nd hand instruments that we are selling on behalf of customers, so we are now maintaining a 2nd hand equipment list and publishing it on-line on a regular basis. The list is also distributed via email to local schools and colleges.
