18 March 2020: Settle Community response; Cancellations and Events

Greetings to all whether in North or West Yorks, or Lancs or
Cumbria.. from Judith

For those near Settle:

Settle now has a Community Response team. Here are details:
phone – 01729 825493 and website: http://settlevictoriahall.org.uk/communityresponse
and email communnityresponse@settlevictoriahall.org.uk
and facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/Settle-Community-Response-100906268218781/

Individual   Villages (e.g.  Langcliffe, Gargrave)  also have their
response teams that Settle will be able to tell you about.
Use this if you need help while self-isolating, or just a
calm and friendly voice if you have any concerns;  or if you
want to offer help to others collecting shopping or
prescriptions etc,  or have enquiries.

           ————————————–

As you will have realised, wherever you live, just about all
events are being cancelled, or in some cases postponed.

So Scottish Dancing is cancelled tonight (Wed) at Ingleton

Scottish Dancing is cancelled on Thursday 19th Settle Methodist Church –
Our leader Robert Rushton and a small core of the dance
class did want to cancel – but it is best to follow guidelines.
A huge thank you to him for leading the class this year and
many, many previous years.

Jill Eccleston’s Core training (fitness class) has been
cancelled on Thursday morning. (though some will be going on
a walk)

Craven Speakers Club at Skipton will not meet this Monday,
and looks forward to starting again in September
We always have a long break over summer.. just summer seems
to have started a bit early…

Even Settle Harriers Training runs have been cancelled
following England Athletics guidance

Settle Slimming World groups will not meet on Wednesdays –

Churches Together in Settle events have been cancelled. so
there is no Lent group tonight at Holy Ascension tonight.

Organised Church Services in buildings have been cancelled.
But some churches will be open for prayer.

Settle Open Air Passion Play on Good Friday has been cancelled for this year.

Eurovision has been cancelled – and I am sure our local
entrant James Newman would have stood a good chance of
doing well
—————————————————-

The 66th Yorkshire Three Peaks race scheduled for 25 April is now
rescheduled for 27 September,

Craven Conservation Group and YNU still hope to hold the “Settle
Nature Day” on 10th October, if things have settled down by
then

—————————————————-

Some of you receiving this email will be worked off your
feet with extra work. Many others will be stuck at home.
Others will be facing loss of income, and loss of jobs.
Others will be upset because they cannot visit loved ones.
Yet more will be wondering what to do with children off
school next week
Sympathies whatever your plight.

But some will find silver linings.

I do recommend going for a walk by yourself and looking for
flowers, birds, lichens, insects coming out.

The Spring Equinox this year is at 03:49 on
Friday, 20 March so from then on the days will be longer than the nights.

Best wishes

Judith Allinson
