This meeting will give everyone the opportunity to hear about current projects and news from the Settle and District Business community

Over the past year we have continued to work with the Local Town Council and North Yorkshire Council as well as the Settle.org website.

All the work of the Chamber is undertaken by a handful of members of your steering group. Those members are all principals of their own businesses and give up their time to work on behalf of the Chamber of Trade.

At the meeting the members will be given the opportunity to vote in the committee,

with the post of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.

More than ever small businesses are struggling and a voice to government / council policy’s and help with promoting growth is where we can offer some help / guidance

A five minute survey, and why it matters for Settle businesses
Sita Brand from Settle Stories met with the Chief Executive of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority last week to discuss a creative and digital centre for this area, offering practical support with digital skills and AI, studio and workspace, as well as training for young people. He was encouraging and clear about what comes next: before anything else, we need to show that local businesses actually want this.

We have agreed to be part of this process and Settle Stories have put together a short survey, about five minutes, open to anyone working for themselves, from larger employers to freelancers, artists and people running something alongside another job.

Settle Stories are collecting responses until the end of September, so that the findings are ready for a meeting here in November with the Combined Authority.

Why are we involved? Rural businesses are usually invisible in these decisions, and investment goes where the evidence is. A strong response from Settle puts local businesses directly into a regional conversation about digital skills and connectivity. Sita will share the full findings with the Chamber either way, and they should be useful to us regardless of what happens to the centre.

SURVEY
The introduction of Visit North Yorkshire to the local tourism agenda marks an important milestone for the Settle and District visitor economy. Established by North Yorkshire Council, this countywide destination management organisation is focused on driving sustainable growth for the region’s £4 billion tourism sector.

Their flagship public platform, visitnorthyorkshire.com, launched in April 2025. It acts as a powerful digital gateway designed to capture search engine traffic and funnel high-value domestic and international visitors directly toward local businesses.

We have invited them to come along to our Agenda to speak and answer questions in person
