** EVENTS **
1. Thur 12 Jan: St John’s Church, Settle has every Thursday afternoons as its “Warm space afternoon” . 2-4.30pm. The church and coffee lounge are open: Free coffee, a place to charge you phone, sit, work, chat; The film “Swallows and Amazons” will be shown at about 2.30pm.

2. Thur 12 Jan (and every Thursday)   7.30pm Scottish Dancing Class-St John’s Church Hall, Settle. BD24 9JH  Beginners welcome: We do very easy dances in the first part.

3. Sat  14 Jan   (10.30-12.30pm) Action for Climate Emergency Settle Green Cafe – ‘Settle: Towards a Fairtrade Community‘  at Settle Methodist Church Hall, just off Church Street, BD24 9JH,
(From the garage, go under the railway viaduct and walk 100 yards and it is on your left, behind the red brick bungalow )

This is the first Action on Climate Emergency Settle Green Cafe of the year will feature a talk and discussion about the potential for developing Settle as a fair trade community.  (This is the meeting that was postponed from December)

Timings:
10.30-11 cafe and climate conversations |
11-11.40 talk by Liz Roodhouse of Skipton Fairtrade Community |
11.40-12.30 informal discussion & how to get involved with a group to take this initiative forward.
Fairtrade items and scrap paper books made by Settle Primary School’s Green Team (50p each) will be available to buy.ACE Food Group are hoping that Settle can become a Fairtrade Community (aka Town) in the not too distant future. This will require support and involvement from Settle Town Council, schools and businesses, event organisers and individuals. Most of the churches are already using Fairtrade goods.

Liz Roodhouse from Fairtrade Skipton will be giving us a presentation and a short film showing how Fairtrade is helping farmers overseas. There will be ample time for questions and a discussion plus Fairtrade goods to purchase.

Yorkshire is the only Fairtrade county in the UK and a Fairtrade Way is being planned. It will run from Bradford, through our area, and then on to Lancaster/Garstang.

8. Wed 25 Jan 7.30pm Winter Wildlife: Bective Room, Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria Surprised by the wildlife you can see in winter? The Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s learning and development manager Jamie Normington will give you all the answers

9. Thur 26 Jan: 7.30pm: Craven Conservation Group talk by Zoë Pickup: “What lies beneath? – A brief look at the ecology of fresh water microscopic organisms St John’s Church, Settle BD24 9NT 

(£5-00 visitors – £1-00 members – Note Membership has been held at £8-00 – So you only have to come to two meetings to have got your membership subscription back.)

13. I am pleased Settle Swimming Pool is open again. 
You can book online so you can see which sessions are busy and which have lots of spaces.  

I notice there are more people at the sessions now.
I would advise giving it a try soon before it starts to get busy.
