Settle Stories announces Creative Summer School Programme

Local arts & heritage charity Settle Stories have announced the full programme for their first ever Summer School. Targeted at children 8 years old and over, the Creative Summer School is for young people who love creating and want a chance to develop new skills, make friends and have fun.

Each day of the summer school is different. There are over ten artists delivering ten unique days, all leading experts from different creative industries. The creative programme offers something for all young people. Days will include, Storytelling, Play in a Day, a Poetry Slam, a chance to write a film, Book Making, Photography, Den Building, Tapestry making, creating a huge art instillation and Creative Writing.

Taking place in the centre of Settle at the Joinery, (Settle Stories new venue just off the Market Place) the days will last from 9-5pm to make it easier for working parents. This new initiative extends Settle Stories work with young people. The charity currently programmes events year round for families and young people and touches the lives of over 6,000 young people a year in schools. Building on this success, the charity are expecting the Summer School to be a huge success. Working with North Yorkshire County Councils Children & Families Service Settle Stories had identified that youth provision in the Summer Holidays is very limited and wanted to address this in their community.

Sita Brand the charity’s director explains further:

‘We’ve done fantastic work with families locally and wanted to build on this. I’m particularly keen to make sure that great art is available to all. We’re proud to be offering free places to young people in collaboration with NYCC Children & Families service so that we can achieve this. The lineup of artists coming to Settle for the Summer School is incredible.’
The Summer School will take place from 9am – 5pm from the 31st July until the 5th August (Mon – Fri only.) You can book onto one place, a week or both. A week is just £75.00 and a day rate is just £22 and £17 per sibling. More information can be found by visiting www.settlestories.org.uk or calling Settle Stories on 05603 845693
