Guys and Dolls

Calling All of Settle’s ‘Guys and Dolls’- S.A.O.S. has some Dates for your Diary.
135 years old this year!  All of us at  Settle Amateur Operatic Society want you to join in the celebrations by coming to see ‘Guys and Dolls’ in October. Starting on the 27th there will be a performance each night, finishing with a matinee and evening performance on Saturday November 1st.
Rehearsals are well under way with a talented cast of ‘old hands’ and newcomers, an excellent mix of youth and experience, which is just what this show needs!
Set in New York in the 1940s the show tells the story of gambler Nathan Detroit (Steven Lawson) who has few options for the location of his big craps game. Needing $1,000 to pay a garage owner to host the game, Nathan bets Sky Masterson (Will Palmer) that Sky cannot get virtuous Sarah Brown (Molly. Summersgill-Smith), a member of the ‘Save a Soul’ Mission, out on a date. Despite some resistance, Sky negotiates a date with her in exchange for bringing people into her mission. Meanwhile, Nathan’s long-time fiancée, Adelaide (Claire Marshall), wants him to go ‘legit’ and marry her.
Our producer this year is Pat Harding and our Musical Director Pam Whitehead. They are working hard to bring out the brilliant mix of humour, intrigue and romance in the musical. They want the audience to be transported to New York 1940s style, to meet the gamblers, gangsters and the ‘Save A Soul’ Missionaries.
The songs from the show are wonderful; ‘Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat’(Sung by Robin Knipe as gambler Nice;y-Nicely) and ‘Luck be a Lady tonight’ to name but two!
Bookings begin on Saturday September 6th at the Victoria Hall. The first hour of bookings for the show is to be from 10 am and will be for Members to book seats and the next hour (11 to12) will be for anyone to do the same.. We are having a coffee morning in Victoria Hall at the same time so you can be refreshed as you wait. All proceeds from this coffee morning will go to support Victoria Hall.
