7:  29 March: Tove Hubbard of YWT writes:  The Yorkshire
Wildlife Trust is looking for volunteers to spend a couple of
hours walking a transect through some of our reserves recording
all the butterflies and day-flying moths. No experience is
necessary as we will be running training courses on 15th March
from 2pm – 5pm and 29th March from 11am – 2pm. The surveys are
carried out once a week between April and September and you
would be part of a rota for the reserve you are surveying.

We are looking for several volunteers at each of these sites:  Brae Pasture
Southerscales and Grass Wood.
(Also: further to the east:  Ripon Loop, Wheldrake Ings,
Littlebeck Wood, Burton Leonard, Ashberry, Staveley,
Bishop Monkton Railway Cutting, Barlow Common,
Yellands Meadow, Kiplingcotes Chalk Pit.)

Geology of the Dent Marble – Field outing to Deepdale
Join  Bill Fraser in exploring sites connected with the historic ‘Dent
‘Marble’  industry. Meet at SD723823 at the summit of the single track
road  (Thornton  Lane)  that runs through Kingsdale at the junction of
the  green  lane  that  runs  around  the west side of Deepdale. Total
distance  c.  7 miles with some steep grassy ascents and rough tracks.
Bring  outdoor  clothes  suitable  for the day and a packed lunch. Car
sharing  needed  to reduce congestion, meet at Settle swimming pool at
09.00  to  share  transport,  if  convenient.  Contact  Dave Tayler on

In  many  countries children who cannot live at home make their way to
the  big  cities  on  railways, and sleep at the stations or streets etc –
and are in great danger of trafficking, prostitution,  abuse etc.
This   charity  works  with  people  to look out for such children as
they arrive  and offer them help / accommodation / reunify with their
families  – IN UK, India, and East Africa.
“We provide protection and  opportunity for children with nowhere else
to go and nobody to turn to.”
