Fun Arts Activities with Pioneer Projects
Venue: Friends Meeting House 10.30am-3.15pm
Join Pioneer Projects to try a range of fun arts activities, led by local artist Philippa Troutman, including print-making and textiles. Help us make a larger piece of artwork or make something of your own to take away. Drop in anytime between 10.30 – 3.15, for a few minutes or longer. Everyone is welcome to join the fun and children to be accompanied by an adult.
Information about Pioneer Projects new regular activities in Settle will be available and the chance to talk through ideas for new activities.
Quizzes and Mouse Trail at The Folly
Venue: The Folly 10.30am-4.30pm
We are delighted that Settle’s Museum, The Folly, is involved with the day and have extended their opening hours especially for Showcase visitors. There will be free entry for children and a reduced entry price of £1 for adults with a voucher which can be picked up from the main Showcase venue at Victoria Hall. As well as the usual Folly exhibits there will be a range of quizzes and a children’s Mouse Trail.

WR Mitchell Archive with Settle Stories

The team from the Settle Storytelling Festival will be talking about the WR Mitchell archive project. The recordings he made uniquely document life in the Dales through the stories of local Dales folk told in their own words and dialects.
World Wide Scouting with Chris Maudsley of Settle Scouts/Explorers

Learn all about World Wide Scouting, and how it can raise awareness of the environment and teach new and exciting life skills.
Simple Photographic Studio Lighting with Steve Finch Photography

A short demonstration of simple studio lighting arrangements, so bring your camera and have a go.
Social Media Workshop with Pat from Admin 24

Ever wondered what social media is all about? How can Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and a blog help your business? Come along to this workshop and find out some really useful hints and tips about all four. Run by Pat Gibson from Admin24 she’ll show you some ‘do’s and ‘don’ts’, how to tweet without doing it every day, and if you’re not using social media, why you should.
Pat isn’t a ‘Social Media Marketeer’ (more of a social media musketeer) but she has learned a lot over the last few years through blood, sweat and tears and from Social Media Gurus based all over the world. Join her – she’d love to pass her knowledge on to you.

Keeping Kids Safe Online with North Yorkshire Police

‘Protect yourself, protect your children and help children protect their friends’. Technology is increasingly a big part of everyday life thanks to mobile phones, smartphones and lap tops. Young people now have access to a wide range of technology. They use technology to express themselves, explore and be creative and not forgetting communication-‘Facebook’ etc. We need to make ensure that children and young people use it properly and safely. Bridging the gap of knowledge between parents and children on internet safety is not easy but the presentation is hopefully an aid to ‘keeping children safe’ with tips on the latest changes and advice.
Paediatric First Aid with Sean from Dales Training

You’re never prepared for being a parent. The role is full of challenges and expectations, full of “Wows” and “What ifs?” It’s the “what ifs” that this workshop will help you prepare for. Those very, very, rare occasions for which no one ever plans. Basic Emergency Life Saving technique for infants and children. A workshop designed to reassure and equip you with skills that we hope you will never need to use.
T’ai Chi with Paul Underhill from Gateway to Health
Venue: Castleberg Room, Victoria Hall 1.15pm-1.45pm
Come along and try T’ai Chi – an ancient form of Chinese exercise. Its soft flowing movements particularly benefit balance, leg strength, coordination and reflexes, posture, breathing, calmness, health and general wellbeing. It is suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness. No special equipment or facilities are required but qualified instruction is strongly recommended. Book early as places are limited.

We’ll take a look at metaphors and similes, and how to use them to make your writing vivid and compelling. All welcome, beginners and experienced writers alike.
Adult Basic Life Support with Bernie & Laraine of BLS
Venue: The Meeting Room, Friends Meeting House 2.00pm-2.30pm
As critical care trained nurses and Advanced Life Support Instructors (Resuscitation Council UK) we have been teaching Basic Life Support to doctors, nurses, medical students and community organisations and groups for the last five years.We are passionate about educating people in this essential life skill and provide quality training tailored to suit the needs of your team or group. The workshop provides a sample of our training and demonstrates what to do to help an adult in cardiac arrest. There will be opportunity for hands on practice with mannequins if you so wish.
Settle Town Hall Tours with Marshall Taylor Properties
Venue: Town Hall Main Entrance, Cheapside 2.00-2.45pm or 3.30pm-4.15pm
Settle Town Hall, originally known as the Public Rooms, was designed in 1832 by George Webster of Kendal in a Gothic Revival style, to provide 4 four bedroom houses, 4 shops, a covered market, a savings bank, library, news room and workshops. The building was purchased by Jeremy Taylor and his wife Lisa in December 2011, with a view to restoring the grade II listed building back to a series of boutique shops, offices and apartments.
As the Town Hall is still under refurbishment, you will be visiting both the old and new areas of the building, to give you a flavour of the building’s history and the challenge involved in bring this magnificent building back into use. Unfortunately over the years, most of the original features have been lost, but there are still some features which give you a taste of the grand times from the buildings past.

This event has been organised by the Settle Networking Group, a mutually supportive group of approximately 100 local businesses. The group meets monthly to share ideas and look for ways to work together or to use each other’s services.
