Artist unveils new work at Giggleswick Junior School

Yorkshire based artist Stephen Waterhouse returned to Giggleswick Junior School on Friday to unveil a piece of large-scale artwork he completed with the help of pupils from across the School.

Back in November, he worked with every school pupil from Nursery through to Year 6 running workshops where they completed a head and shoulders and a full-length portrait along with drawings of their favourite outdoor activities. Stephen has now incorporated these into his piece.

The work, which is a three metre wide painting of the school, took over two months to complete and incorporates the children’s self-portraits as a mosaic border as well as being featured within the painting itself.

Stephen said of working on the piece

This artwork was a joy to work on from start to finish! Both the staff and the pupils at Giggleswick Junior school are incredibly enthusiastic and hard working. The staff have all been very supportive, positive and helpful throughout the design process.

And James Mundell, Headmaster, said

The children have got so much from working with Stephen and seeing their drawings make up a piece of professional art. It will take pride of place in our school entrance for many years to come.

The artwork is one of many new additions to the School following investment in an outdoor learning area.
