Skerryvore first formed on the tiny lsle of Tiree off Scotland’s west coast in 2005. The band then consisted of Tiree-born brothers Daniel Gillespie (accordion) and Martin Gillespie (bagpipes, whistles & accordion) who bonded with holidaymaker Fraser West (drums & vocals) and friend Alec Dalglish (lead vocals & guitar) over a shared love of music: everything from traditional to rock and iazz. It was this mix of musical styles and sounds that set the path for the band’s 2005 debut album, ‘West Coast Life.’ The more the fledgling band experimented with fusing together this mix of musical styles, the more their signature sound evolved, aided by the arrival of Barry Caulfield (bass & vocals) and Craig Espie (fiddle) in time for their second album, ‘On The Road’, in 2007.

But it was with the release of self-titled third album, ‘Skerryvore’, that the band found themselves catapulted into the musical limelight winning a string of prestigious awards, including SNMA Record of the Year 2011 and STMA Live Act of the Year 2011, and garnering much critical acclaim:

“Skerryvore are the most promising young band in Scotland today”

Mick MacNeil, Simple Minds

In June 2012 the band released what was at the time their most polished and radio-ready album to date. ‘World of Chances’ weaves together the band’s spine-tingling musical talents with the award winning songwriting abilities of frontman Alec Dalglish (Frankie Miller Songwriter of the Year 2011). At times uplifting, at times reflective, the result was a brighter, breezier, feel good sound that helped to broaden the band’s appeal even further.

Skerryvore have recently completed recording their latest album, ‘Chasing the Sun’ due out on 1st September 2014. Ahead of release, this has already received numerous accolades:

‘This is their most complete and mature album to date…that album’s a cracker!’ (Phil Brown, BBC Radio Lancashire)

‘The sound of Young Scots Power Folk.’ (Mark Radcliff, BBC Radio 2)

‘A fabulous set of songs, beautifully produced. Highly recommended.’ (Scots Magazine)

‘Chasing The Sun is a brilliantly realised, polished and accessible piece of work.’ (Rob Fearnley, FATEA Magazine Website)

The band have performed in over 25 countries worldwide including, on several occasions, in USA, throughout Europe, the Middle East and China. Previous festival performances in the US include Milwaukee Irish Fest, Kansas City IF, Pittsburgh IF, the 2008 Ryder Cup in Louisville and a special performance in Central Park New York for Tartan Week 2010. The 2013 tour in the US was band’s longest and most successful to date in America with great reviews from Dubuque, Kansas, Chicago & Cincinnati.

When not touring the different corners of the globe, the band, now with bassman Jodie Bremaneson, can still be found performing relentlessly, contributing to projects by Live Music Now (LMN), The Royal Blind School, Artlink Central and HMP Cornton Vale as well as special needs schools throughout the UK. They also featured in a recent VisitScotland TV commercial aimed at international audiences.

To quote the words of one local journalist:

“Six of the best musical ambassadors Scotland could ever have wished for… a living, breathing, l2 legged party waiting to happen.”

INSPIRED by sun-filled summers spent on Tiree that were the springboard   for the band forming, ‘Chasing The Sun’ is the fifth and arguably most mature sounding album yet from multi award winning Skerryvore.

From the assured determination of ‘Can You Hear Us?’ and steadfast self-belief of ‘Here I Am’, to the life-is-short urgency of ‘We Can Run’ and wistful reflection of ‘You Were My Friend’, this is an album with all the hallmarks of a band that has lived, learned and played music together for close to 10 years now.

For the band’s loyal followers meanwhile, the rousing ‘You Don’t Know’, ‘Walk With Me’ and instrumentals ‘The Rut’ and ‘Moonraker’ are unmistakably Skerryvore in their ability to get heads nodding and toes tapping.

Written between Roddy Hart’s studio at Film City Glasgow and The Cottage in Loch Fyne, ‘Chasing The Sun’ was recorded at Castlesound Studios in Edinburgh (Mark Knopfler, REM and The Proclaimers). There, Alec Dalglish (songwriter, vocals, guitars and mandolin), Martin Gillespie (bagpipes and whistles), Daniel Gillespie (accordion), Fraser West (drums and percussion), Craig Espie (fiddle) and new band member Jodie Bremaneson (bass) reunited with producer Alan Scobie (keyboards) to create the next chapter in the Skerryvore success story.

Also featured on ‘Chasing The Sun’ is the band’s first international collaboration with platinum award winning producer Chris Kress (The Dave Matthews Band) on
‘Blown Away’ and ‘By Your Side’.
