Victoria Hall, Kirkgate, Settle BD24 9DZ
The Northern Chamber Orchestra
Nicholas Ward, violin
‘Turkish’ & Other Delights
Rossini String Sonata no.1 in G major
Mozart Violin Concerto no. 5 in A major ‘Turkish’
Bartók Rumanian Folk Dances
Schubert Symphony no. 5 in B flat major
Enjoy a kaleidoscopic, musical adventure with the NCO, one of the country’s finest chamber orchestras. Rossini’s String Sonata shows off his gift for melody and exceptional virtuosity, while Mozart’s Violin Concerto no. 5 features the famous delight – the ‘Turkish’ episode. The concert continues its journey, deep into Europe, with Bartók’s dramatic Rumanian Folk Dances. Schubert’s sparkling Symphony no.5 glides majestically from the serene early passages, to the dramatic minuet, with its dreamy middle section in the style of a Viennese country dance (which became ‘the waltz’) – making this one of the most accessible masterpieces of all time.
