Free Energy Training Course

Settle Community Energy Champions
Training on 6th March , we have some extra places. If you’d like to go then email ann.harding3@btinternet.com.
StART is looking for 3 people (initially) who are keen to learn about energy efficiency and inspire others to reduce energy consumption within the Settle community. You don’t have to be an expert in energy efficiency, carbon reduction or renewable technologies.  We are looking for people who willing to put some time into supporting the local community and are enthusiastic about energy reduction. In addition to benefitting from free training a free energy monitor will be given to each energy champion to help them save energy in their own home.
Being a community energy champion will involve the following:
  • Attending a free one day training course on 6th March in the World Heritage site of Saltaire to learn about basic domestic energy efficiency in hard to treat/historic buildings
  • Committing a small amount of time each month to energy champion activities
  • Promoting simple energy efficiency messages and top tips to at least 3friends and neigbours using resource provided.
  • Encouraging these friends and neigbours to complete a simple carbon calculator questionnaire using the Green Communities Carbon Footprint Tool. This will provide participants with a simple report on energy efficiency improvements in their home.
  • Finding other creative ways of spreading the energy efficiency message.
Training Outline
The training is free to attend and will be hosted by Sustainable Saltaire as part of another LEAF funded project.  This community also has an interest in community owned hydro schemes.
Training will be on 6th March 2012 9.45 – 4.00pm (latest) in Saltaire (Bradford). It will cover basic energy efficiency in the home including:
  • Heating and Hot Water Systems
  • Renewable Technologies / Climate Change
  • Programmers (exercise)
  • Gas and Electricity Bills
  • Energy Performance Certificates
  • Grant Aid including Warm Front and Green Deal
  • Dampness and Condensation (Problems and Solutions)
  • Basic draught proofing
  • Solid wall insulation
  • Secondary glazing solutions for hard to treat(historic buildings)

Lunch will be provided
