Settle and Bentham MS Group

Settle Bentham & District MS Society

Settle Bentham & District MS Society write with good news and some not so good news.

The good news is that Lesley Barker, secretary of the local MS Group went down Gaping Gill on Saturday 27th May, in a magnificent thunder storm, to raise funds for people locally with MS. She raised a staggering £593.  She would like to thank all the businesses and people who pledged money for this event.

A very memorable day for Lesley and her friends.

The not so good news is that after over 35 years our local group is to be amalgamated with the bigger Skipton Group who have many more volunteers, and as our group is getting smaller and older we felt that the time is right for us to hand over the reins to a younger more vibrant group.

Nothing will change for our member’s; they will still be able to access funds, information and assistance as before.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank local businesses who have never failed to support us by supplying raffle prizes also the good people of Bentham, Ingleton and Settle who have helped at and supported every coffee morning, jumble sale and collection day.

The monies raised over the years have helped provide much needed support for local people with MS. Up to press we have helped buy stair lifts, chairs, paid for personal alarms for three of our members and also donated money towards respite care for two of our members. We have funded decorating and gardening.

We have also sent £1000 annually to head quarters, last year we sent £1500, to help finance research into finding a cure and better treatment for MS.
