Some Local Events, and Cancellations

Events are getting cancelled. Maybe you can use the time gained for going out
on walks and learning to identify the wildflowers, lichens, birds etc that
live both in the city streets and countryside.

Or share your time on Settle Time Bank, and find others to help you
https://tol2.timebanking.org/settle/ (This needs a lot of offers to get
running effectively again)

For people near Settle, a local coordinated response centre in relation to
the Coranavirus (with a new staffed phone line) is being set up at Victoria
Hall Settle in conjunction with Settle Hub,- look out for news of this in a
few days time. People can then volunteer or ask for help.

1. The CCG talk on Thursday 19th March by Tony Serjeant has been postponed till autumn.
2. The Settle Parish Church Tuesday lunches have stopped for the moment
3. The music evening in aid of the refugee project on Tuesday at the Joinery has
been cancelled.
4. Events involving outside people using the Lounge at Limestone View (Old
Peoples Housing Complex) have stopped.
5. Settle Library at Limestone View has closed until further notice
https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/settle-community-library

Customers are advised to use Skipton, Bentham and Ingleton libraries.
6. Yorkshire’s Three Peaks Race has has been cancelled

It makes me realise how many of our events are organised and run by people
over 70 (and in many cases over 80) on a voluntary basis,
and that we should be grateful to both young
and old people for organising events.

I present the list of events that I have from last month.
Some of these may have been cancelled, so do check before setting off.
If you know of more cancellations, let me know and and I can send out an email
in a few days time.

                            FROGS AND TOADS

Melanie Fryer Secretary of CCG says
“Toads in particular are very specific to their breeding ponds and many are
run over on roads every year.   They will move on any night that is wet and
warm and will be starting anytime soon.   Please keep a sharp look out as you
are driving so as not to run over them  and ask your neighbours to do the
same.  I have an excellent booklet on pond creation  if anyone has space for
a pond at home.

If you see any ‘hotspots’ where many toads are crossing please let me know
and we can get it registered with Froglife.   I suspect the Dales area and
possibly Lancashire are under recorded.  send information  to Melanie at
info@craven-conservation-group.org.uk
