The children enjoy it a lot. (5-11 year olds). This year it is called
“On your Marks” Come for one, two or three mornings.

not in the CCG spring newsletter) and the Bat Event has been brought
forward a day to 29th August.

Then (repeats) on each Thursday evening in August
Several of you went on this walk on 19 July, and enjoyed it very
much. This is to be repeated each Thursday in August
There will be an opportunity to find out more about one of Settle’s
famous sons, by undertaking the Tot Lord Trail. This guided walk
around the town will meet outside Lamberts at 6pm on 19 July. The walk
takes around 90 minutes and costs £3.50 with proceeds going to the
East African Famine Appeal. For further information contact 015242

You don’t just find out about Tot Lord, you find out about what many
of our Settle buildings were used for in the past, and where buildings
which once stood have now been demolished. The things old residents of
Settle might know about.

4. 19 Aug Caring for Butterflies on a Dales Farm – Lower Winskill –
Booking essential
Tom Lord will explain the innovative whole-farm butterfly conservation
project at Lower Winskill, showing how pastures and hay meadows can
provide food sources and a diversity of microhabitats for these
remarkable and beautiful insects. Results have been encouraging,
with some 14 species of butterfly now resident at the farm.

to explore the ponds on this fabulous SSSI site and compare the still
water invertebrates with those living in streams running into the

parking on site is very limited. Bring waterproofs, welly boots and a

Learn about the ecology, life cycle and the different species of
bumblebee you are likely to encounter in the Yorkshire Dales.
A classroom based presentation is followed by the opportunity to
identify species around Lowers Winskills Farm at Lancliffe and its
meadows. This is a YDMT event run in conjunction with Natural England.

will know it – but learning about lichens and algae (from scratch)
gives you an extra reason to walk along it.
Half the photosynthesis in the world is due to Algae.
